The Rowan County Sheriff's Office now says a man's death from Friday night appears to be a suicide.
Firefighters were called to a structure fire at Millbridge Elementary School on Ed Deal Road just after 8 p.m. Friday when a passing driver called 911.
When they arrived, firefighters found the burned body of Erasmo Garcia-Jimenez, 39, of Charlotte near the edge of the nearby woods. His vehicle was parked nearby.
Detectives say the burns were self-inflicted.
Investigators interviewed people who live near the school, as well as family members of the victim. They also reviewed text and voicemail messages from his phone.
Monday morning, investigators said they did not believe the death of Garcia-Jimenez was the result of foul play.
