CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) -

The N.C. Department of Transportation will shift traffic on Mallard Creek Road over I-85 in Charlotte this weekend.

The lane shift is a postponement from the original plan. It will now happen starting at 4 p.m. Saturday, November 17, weather permitting.

Drivers will have a new bridge built as part of the $92.2 million I-85/I-485 interchange conversion, creating the first turbine interchange in North Carolina.

The Mallard Creek Road bridge had to be rebuilt to accommodate the new on and off-ramps that will connect I-85 to the new interchange.

The project is scheduled to be completed in June 2014.

NCDOT reminds motorists to watch signs for construction information, stay alert and obey the posted speed limit.

For real-time travel information at any time, call 511.
