See, Click, Fix: "Danger" near local playground

Posted: Updated:

Latta Park, in all its 31 acres, sits right in the Dilworth area of Charlotte on East Park Avenue.

Among the features is a playground which is where one viewer told See, Click, Fix danger is looming.

Clyde not only posted online there is a dead tree in Latta Park, he also pointed out another problem just last week saying: "Drove by today and there were young children playing under a large dead limb hanging over the play ground. What will it take to get this fixed?"

First, our mission was to find the dead tree. And...well... we had no luck. All the trees at the park appeared to be healthy.

As for the tree limb. It took a second find but we spotted it, hanging on by a thread high in the air in a tree.

It didn't look like the most threatening limb, but we wanted to err on the side of caution and brought it to the attention of Mecklenburg County Park and Rec.

Within one day, officials responded with good news saying,"...(the park superintendent's crew) will investigate the issue at Latta and remove any harmful limbs or branches near the playground."

It's precisely the action, we're happy to report, that will get this problem fixed!

Park and Rec reached out to Christine Nelson later with this update: Officials located a dead tree but it was deeper in the park and "not an immediate safety hazard."

Because the ground is currently saturated officials say they plan to remove the dead tree next week.
