Discount prescription card allows consumers to save on certain healthcare costs while generating revenue for public programs
Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla. (PRWEB) November 13, 2012
The providers of the Coast2Coast Rx discount card and the Ventura County Board of Supervisors are celebrating the milestone fourth anniversary of the free prescription discount program. Since its launch in September 2008, Ventura County residents have saved a total of $6,148,706 on prescription drug costs by using the card. Adding value to an already advantageous program, residents’ use of the card has generated revenue to support local public programs and projects, as Coast2Coast Rx contributes $1.25 to the county for each prescription filled using the card.
Ventura County Medical Center Hospital Administrator Cyndie Cole explained that the revenue generated by card usage helps fund a pharmacy program, providing residents in need access to free and reduced-price medications. “The Coast2Coast Rx program not only benefits Ventura residents by helping them save money on their prescriptions, but the funding that the county receives in turn has enabled us to provide much-needed assistance to individuals and families,” Cole stated. “This dual-benefit has made the Coast2Coast Rx card an easy way for consumers and the county to feel some relief during challenging economic times.”
Ventura County, the first municipality in the state to adopt the program four years ago, has been joined by the California State Association of Counties and 24 additional California counties where Boards of Supervisors have endorsed the Coast2Coast Rx card for its ease of use and greater percentage of available savings. A free comprehensive program that provides immediate discounts on prescription drugs and other healthcare services, Coast2Coast Rx is available to all consumers. There are no eligibility requirements or restrictions based on age, current health status, or income level. Residents can easily print a card from Coast2Coast Rx’s website, with no membership fees or paperwork, in order to immediately access the savings benefits.
“We recognized the importance of forming partnerships between the public and private sectors as a vehicle to providing healthcare services that can help enhance the quality of life for residents,” said Ventura County Supervisor Kathy Long. “Coast2Coast Rx fit the bill with its easy-to-use platform, its ability to provide significant savings for cardholders, and the opportunity for constituents to improve their health outcomes and generate revenue for public programs.”
Users of the Coast2Coast Rx card may benefit from discounts of up to 75 percent on prescriptions, with a national average savings of about 60 percent in 2012. With rising healthcare costs, the Coast2Coast Rx card can be a big cost saver, especially for those who are uninsured, underinsured or face high deductibles using their current plan. In some instances the card can even help offset certain discrepancies in coverage Medicare Part D patients sometimes encounter. More than 59,000 pharmacies nationwide accept the card including major chains and independent pharmacies. The multi-faceted program also provides discounts on certain dental, vision, hearing, lab services, diabetes supplies, and even pet prescriptions and veterinary services–all while enjoying the convenience of using the same card for an entire family.
To raise awareness and increase use of the card, Coast2Coast Rx continues to develop partnerships with local government and non-profit agencies. Organizations can request free supplies of the cards to distribute to their respective constituents as a money-saving resource. Local business owners are also encouraged to promote the growing program by offering the card to their employees in addition to their current healthcare coverage or to assist those without an employer-provided health plan.
“As there are no restrictions or eligibility requirements to use the card, we encourage those who are underinsured or facing out-of-pocket costs for their prescriptions to compare costs at their pharmacy; in some cases individuals find that the benefits are greater than those offered by their healthcare plan,” says Chief Marketing Officer Marty Dettelbach of Financial Marketing Concepts, Inc., the company that administers the discount prescription card.
To begin saving immediately on their prescriptions, residents can simply print a card from the Coast2Coast Rx website at http://www.coast2coastrx.com/counties/ca/ventura/. Organizations and consumers alike are encouraged to stay up-to-date on the program and on healthcare news by following Coast2Coast Rx on Facebook and Twitter.
