High school bands compete in Charlotte

CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) - Several high school students were marching to the beat of their drum major at Johnson C. Smith University Saturday.

It was all part of the 11th annual High school marching band championship.

30 high school bands participated in the event.

High School bands came from North Carolina, Virginia, Maryland, New York, Florida, Alabama, Texas, Tennessee, South Carolina, Illinois, Louisiana and the District of Columbia. The goal is to gain bragging rights as the best.

The competition ends Sunday, but so far congratulations go to the West Charlotte High school Band.

Members came in second in the drum line and dance line event.

    A man is being sought in a Monday robbery at a Rock Hill convenience store.  Officials say a man walked into Bob's Food Mart in the 1300 block of E. Main Street and robbed the place at gunpoint.  The robber took money from the register and the victim's cellphone, officials say.  The robber is described as a black male who was wearing a dark sweatshirt and blue gloves.
