DENVER, NC (WBTV) -

A Lincoln County man has been sentenced to more than a decade in prison after killing his neighbor and setting his house on fire.

According to the Lincoln County Sheriff's Office, 25-year-old John Paul Gaddy accepted a plea agreement on charges of felony Manslaughter and First Degree Arson.

Gaddy was charged with killing Jimmy William Cole, 49, who lived along Oakbrook Lane in Denver.

Firefighters were dispatched to the residence on July 21, 2010 to a reported house fire where they found blood on the front porch and Cole's body near the doorway of the home.

Neighbors told WBTV that Cole was a nice man and was always willing to lend a helping hand to others.

"There wasn't no call for it all," neighbor Bob Toliver told WBTV in 2010.

Deputies told WBTV the charges were consolidated and Gaddy was sent to Piedmont Correctional Institute where he will be processed into the prison system.

He was sentenced to a minimum 9 years and 2 months to a maximum of 11 years and 9 months.
