With high pressure continuing to build over the region, much of the area may see a break from the chilly temperatures. Highs are expected to climb into the 70s this weekend.
The above average temperatures are a welcome break from the cold, frosty mornings the Carolinas have seen for several days already.
Is this the last time we'll see 70s until Spring? Not necessarily. We've seen temperatures in the 70s in the second week of January, on average the coldest month of the year in Charlotte. But as the days get shorter the jet stream dips farther South, bringing more frontal boundaries through the Carolinas and cooler average temperatures.
Early next week that high will move East, allowing our next cold front to move back in Tuesday.
