Ramp reopens after tractor-trailer overturns on highway

CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) - The North Carolina Highway Patrol has reopened the ramp connecting I-85 South to I-485 South after a tractor-trailer overturned Thursday morning.

The State Highway Patrol said an 18-wheeler loaded with shampoos and lotions overturned around 1:30 a.m.

Officials who talked to the driver said he hit the curb on the right side of the roadway, and that caused the truck to slowly topple over.

When the trailer hit the ground, it opened up a huge gash in the top of the rig and the cargo spilled down the side of the hill.

The driver was not hurt.

The ramp was opened after a short time, but then shut down again at about 7 a.m. By 10 a.m., Highway Patrol confirmed the ramp was back open and the scene was clear.
