Armanti could see more reps after clutch play

Charlotte, NC - (WBTV)

Former Appalachian State Quarterback Armanti Edwards finally got his chance, and it turned out to be one of Sunday's most talked about plays.

His 82-yard touchdown reception in the 4th quarter, put the Panthers on the path to winning 21-13 over the Washington Redskins.

After getting knocked out of bounds near the 9-yard line, Cam Newton ran in a touchdown later on the drive, the increased the lead 21-6.

At Head Coach Ron Rivera's weekly afternoon press conference today, he said Edwards has been working in practice all season long, "it's about opportunities. We do so many different packages, and use so many different personnel groups that it's all about when you get your opportunity you have to step up and make a play". Rivera also says Edwards will continue to see opportunities.

It was just the 2nd catch of his career, which began in 2010 with the Panthers. And while many thought his Panther career could end at any moment because of the lack of production, he may have just earned himself another reason to stick around.

Other Wide Receiver notes: Brandon Lafell, who missed Sunday's game because of a concussion, will return this week. Kealoha Pilares will undergo an MRI on his shoulder this week. A decision on whether or not the team plans to activate David Gettis (hamstring) will come Tuesday afternoon.
