Early voting numbers on a record pace

Posted: Updated:
CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) -

Early voting numbers are due out Monday, and they are expected to show a huge turnout.

If the pace continues, the percentage of people who turned out to cast ballots early in the elections could break records set back in 2008.

The last Presidential election had 2-point six million people vote early.  The best estimates have the numbers up by 6%, but that could go even higher.

According to the state...2.5 million people stood in line to cast their ballot since early voting started October 18th.

Close to two-hundred thousand people sent in their vote through the mail.

There's 6.6 million registered voters here in North Carolina.  Here's the breakdown of the people who have already voted:

47% are Democrats,  31% Republican, 20 percent Unaffiliated and Independents round out the rest.

Lines are expected to be long at polling places on Tuesday, so people are urged to be ready to wait in line for long periods of time.
