ATLANTA (AP) -
Two officers were killed Saturday night, after an Atlanta police helicopter crashed at an intersection of two major highways.
Witnesses say the helicopter was searching for a missing 9 year old and flying low when it clipped power lines and crashed in the parking lot.
"Well obviously the loss of police officer is probably the most difficult thing a chief of police has to deal with and magnify that twice and it's very difficult for me and not just me the entire Atlanta police department family," Atlanta Police Chief George Turner said in a statement released Sunday morning.
Turner added "The families of the two officers, we are doing everything that we can to support them at this time we have our chaplain as well as our doctor there with the families trying to provide them with as much support as possible."
The Federal Aviation Administration and National Transportation Safety Board are investigating how the helicopter went down.
No one on the ground was hurt or killed.
