The numbers campaigns have been waiting for

Hello again everyone, it's Paul Cameron in the WBTV newsroom. 

Tonight at 5:00PM—they are the numbers both campaigns have been waiting for—the last jobs report before the election. Unemployment in North Carolina ticks down to 8.9%-- that's a full point worse than the national rate at 7.9%.  But it's lower than the 9.1% in Mecklenburg County.  Our business reporter Melissa Hankins is number crunching to see which presidential camp benefits from today's report. 

A hiker trapped in heavy snow drifts, was rescued this afternoon by helicopter.  He called for help on his cell phone while hiking the Appalachian Trail in the Great Smoky Mountains yesterday.  Tonight, he's getting checked by doctors. 

Long gas lines in New York and New Jersey aren't being caused by a shortage of fuel.  Much like what the Charlotte area went through with Hurricane Hugo, it's the shortage of electricity to pump gas that's causing all the problems.
