Police: Incidents at neighboring Charlotte motels not connected

Charlotte first responders say two simultaneous incidents on the east side of the city are not connected.

Police say several containers of gasoline were found inside a room at the Econo Lodge on East Independence Boulevard around 5 Friday morning. The hotel was not evacuated as officers investigated.

Around the same time, firefighters evacuated the neighboring Golden Green Hotel after smoke started spreading through the building. Firefighters searched for what may have been a fire but found the source was just some smoke coming out of a heater. Customers were allowed back inside a short time later. We're told no one was hurt.
