A body found in 1985 has been confirmed to be that of a Charlotte woman reported missing 37 years ago, according to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department.
Priscilla Blevins was reported missing on July 7, 1975. The case was assigned to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department's Missing Person Unit.
In December of 2009, detectives sent a family reference DNA sample to the FBI Laboratory in Quantico, Virginia. The results were then entered into the National Missing Person DNA Database.
Nearly two years later, the NC Medical Examiner's Office was notified of a match between the sample and a sample from human remains found near Interstate 40 in Haywood County in March 1985, the report states.
On October 17, dental x-rays were used to positively identify Blevins. Her family was notified of her death the very next day.
The investigation into Blevins' death is now in the hands of the Haywood County Sheriff's Office, but CMPD detectives say they are communicating and will continue to assist in any way possible.
Anyone with information about this case is asked to contact the Haywood County Sheriff's Office at (828)452-6666 or Crime Stoppers at (704)334-1600.
