CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) -
The Charlotte City Council recommended a search firm to assist in the search for a new City Manager.
Wednesday, the Council Relations Committee recommended Waters Consulting firm, who submitted a proposal of $23,500 plus expenses, which are anticipated at less than $5,000.
The city's current Chief Executive, Curt Walton, is retiring in December.
Bob Morgan, President of the Charlotte Chamber of Commerce, told WBTV in October, the hiring of a City Manager is one of the biggest decisions the City Council can make.
He believes the manager has to be "willing to take risks, willing to invest resources in partnerships with the private sector to make things happen that are visionary".
The Mayor and council members will interview finalists during the first week of December, and hope to announce the new City Manager sometime between December 19 and January 7.
The Council will vote to adopt the recommendation of Waters Consulting Firm at a council meeting scheduled for November 12. The question of appointing an interim city manager will be discussed at the November 26 council meeting.
