CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) -

Two men are under arrest, accused of conspiracy to commit armed robbery.

The Charlotte Mecklenburg Police Department says a uniformed off-duty officer observed two masked men inside a Laundromat in the 6400 block of Albemarle Road at about 7:00 p.m. Tuesday.

As the off-duty officer entered the business to investigate - preventing a robbery - the masked men ran out the back door. The officer pursued the suspects and caught them.

At the time of arrest, one of the suspects was in possession of a knife. Both were charged with conspiracy to commit armed robbery, and resisting a public officer.

CMPD says both Jovontay Lewis, 18, and Xavier Davis, 18, have been arrested several times in the past. WBTV checked – Lewis has been arrested several times dating back two years in Mecklenburg County for similar charges…conspiracy, armed robbery, resisting arrest, assault – including assault on a school employee or volunteer. Davis has a record that goes back at least a year in Mecklenburg County for assault.
