CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) -

Charlotte, NC (WBTV) -The UNC Charlotte 49ers now officially occupy their new football stadium. The paperwork was signed Wednesday.

To celebrate, head coach Brad Lambert decided to hold Wednesday's practice on the new stadium field to give the team a feel of what it's like to be in their own house.

The team will also practice Saturday at 12:30PM at the new field. The workout is open to the public and it will include a srimmage.

UNC Charlotte has waited a long time for its $45 million football stadium. It comes complete with an academic center for players to study. In August, Coach Lambert stressed the importance of that center.

Athletic Director Judy Rose said with the stadium signing out of the way they can actually sense football on the campus.

The first home game for the 49ers is August 31, 2013 against Campbell University.
