WBTV Speak Out Editorial: Voting - A Privilege, A Responsibility

Posted: Updated:

"Speak Out" is an expression of opinion from the Editorial Board of WBTV, and is presented by General Manager, Nick Simonette.

You've heard this before.

No doubt, you will hear it again…because it's true.

Your vote does count. Every vote counts.

That's why it is imperative that we all exercise our right to vote on November 6th.

Voting is the great equalizer – one citizen equals one vote.

And if you don't participate, you really have no right to complain about the outcome.

No, voting is not always convenient…you might have to wait in line for a few hours on Tuesday.

But let's put that in perspective.

How many thousands of men and women have fought overseas for this precious right?

How many families have lost loved ones in that fight?

Vote in honor of those who died for our liberty…our independence…our freedom to choose.

Remember, being a United States citizen involves responsibilities as well as privileges.

Countries throughout the world hold meaningless elections.

Their people vote, but in the end, the elections process is an exercise in futility.

Those in power place candidates in office and the people yield very little influence.

But here, you really can make a difference.

In America, the process works and has for over 200 years…but only if we each participate.

Honor our country and vote on November 6th.

Because WBTV is "On Your Side," we encourage everyone to "Speak Out" – tell us what YOU think. SpeakOut@wbtv.com
