WINNSBORO, SC (WIS) -

SLED agents are searching for a Winnsboro Public Safety officer who they say shot his estranged wife while on duty Sunday night.

Investigators on Monday morning found Michael Bernard Roseboro's patrol vehicle in a remote area of woods near Great Falls, but there is still no sign of the officer.

Roseboro, 43, is wanted in connection to a shooting on Eighth Street in Winnsboro Sunday night that sent his estranged wife to the hospital.

Investigators say Roseboro took off in his white Ford Crown Victoria shortly after the incident.

A warrant has been issued for Roseboro's arrest. He should be considered armed and dangerous and should not be approached by the public.

Winnsboro Public Safety Chief Deputy Keith Lewis says his department answered the call, but quickly turned the case over to the State Law Enforcement Division because before Roseboro worked for him.

"He worked at the Sheriff's office from 2001 to 2010. He started out as a deputy, ended up an investigator," said Lewis.

Lewis says Roseboro is a seasoned police officer.

Investigators says the fact that Roseboro was an investigator complicates things. They think he was listening to the radio in his car and he knew to immediately turn his cell phone off.

"So we have to change things. We can't operate on the radio so things like that go into effect when you're looking for one of your own," said Lewis.

The victim was transported to Palmetto Richland Hospital in Columbia for treatment of what was reported to be non-life threatening injuries.

Anyone with information on the whereabouts of DPS Officer Roseboro is requested to call CRIMESTOPPERS at 1-888-CRIME SC (274-6372).
