ROCK HILL, SC (WBTV) -

A man was arrested after he received packages of marijuana at local inns, according to the York County Multijurisdictional Drug Enforcement Unit.

On Thursday, October 25, just after 2 p.m., officers with the York County Multijurisdicational Drug Enforcement Unit arrested Charles Wayne, 30, at the Wingate Inn, located at 760 Galleria Blvd. for trafficking marijuana, deputies said.

Wayne had reserved a room at the inn, and after a package was sent to him there, he canceled his reservation and left with the package. The package contained 13 pounds of marijuana shipped from Arizona, authorities told WBTV.

In Wayne's vehicle was another package addressed to the Holiday Inn at 503 Galleria Blvd., that Wayne had received minutes earlier. It contained another 14 pounds of marijuana, also from Arizona.

Wayne was arrested in the parking lot.

The investigation led officers to believe that two more packages were being shipped from Arizona to additional hotels in the area the following day. Friday they intercepted another package of 12.5 pound of marijuana at the Hilton Garden Inn on Tinsley Way, and a fourth package addressed to another local hotel in Rock Hill was intercepted by Arizona Law Enforcement Officers, the report states.

The investigation indicates that additional packages were sent to hotels in Gastonia, NC and Concord, NC.  Arizona Law Enforcement also has one person in custody for shipping the packages, deputies said.

Investigators confirmed to WBTV that police in Arizona tipped off several law enforcement agencies, saying that the packages of marijuana had been shipped to their state.

Wayne was charged with three counts of trafficking marijuana.
