ALBEMARLE, NC (WBTV) -

Two brothers have been arrested for assaulting and robbing their handicapped mother, according to the Albemarle Police Department.

On Tuesday, October 23, just before 7:30 p.m., the police responded to a call of a disturbance at an apartment on Martin Luther King Drive in Albemarle. Once on scene, the officers spoke with Ruby Diane Ball, 56, who said that her two sons broke into her home and began stealing food items from her cabinets. They also took thirteen dollars she had on her table, the report states.

Her sons also assaulted her by kicking her in her face and locking her in her bathroom. They then ransacked the house; breaking a chair and throwing her clothes all over the place in an attempt to find more money, police told WBTV.

Detectives began investigating and were able to obtain warrants on the men.

Joe Henry Furr, 25, and Tom Lee Furr, 23, were charged with two counts of first degree burglary, assault on a handicapped person, kidnapping and communicating threats in the warrants.

An officer spotted the duo on Glenn Street two days later and called for back-up. Other officers arrived and chased the subjects on foot, apprehending them both, police said.

Both subjects received a $50,000 bond each. Their next court date will be November 7, at the Stanly County Courthouse.
