CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) -
Police in Charlotte say a man has died from his injuries weeks after he was assaulted in east Charlotte.
According to officers, 43-year-old Silvano Melgar-Galicia died on Thursday at Carolinas Medical Center. Police say Melgar-Galicia was assaulted on October 6 along the 5100 block of Central Avenue.
Officers were called to the area around 2:08 a.m., according to police, in reference to an assist medic call for a man who was bleeding and appeared to have been assaulted.
When officers arrived they found Melgar-Galicia unresponsive and lying on the ground in a wooded path.
He was transported to Carolinas Medical Center where he has been getting treated for his injuries since the attack.
"The investigation is in its early stages, but further investigation by detectives revealed that the suspect(s) may speak Spanish," officers told WBTV.
Detectives continue to ask for the public's assistance in developing information in this case.
