Charlotte city officials and business leaders, who are in New York City on a fact finding mission, are scheduled to meet Thursday morning with Roger Goodell, the Commissioner of the National Football League.
Bob Morgan, the President of Charlotte Chamber of Commerce says "with New York City hosting the Super Bowl in 2014, we're interested in knowing what it might take for Charlotte to be in a position to host a Super Bowl somewhere down the road".
Morgan, who is with the delegation, says the Commissioner's presentation to them is not an official bid.
"Having hosted the DNC, we'd like to know what it will take for Charlotte to be competitive to land bigger and better events. That's a short list of such opportunities that are available - Super Bowl is one of them", says Morgan.
Does it matter that the home team is not a regular playoff contender? Is Bank of America stadium big enough? And what about Uptown?
Morgan says "we suspect we're going to learn that we need some larger hotels located close to the Convention Center. That will help us, not just potentially landing the Super Bowl. It will help us land other conventions as well."
