At 6:56 p.m. Tuesday, Hickory firefighters responded to a reported fire located at 1440 19th Avenue NE. Firefighters responded 2 engines, 1 ladder and a command vehicle to the incident.
On arrival at 7 p.m., firefighters reported moderate smoke coming from the structure. After checking the residence, firefighters found the fire to be out.
Firefighters used fans to remove the smoke from the building and then worked to determine the cause of the fire. The fire was contained to the kitchen area and smoke damage throughout the entire residence.
No injuries were reported and damages were estimated at $8,000.
An investigation determined the fire was caused by unattended cooking. Personnel from Hickory Police Department responded to the scene for traffic control and the Red Cross is assisting the family.
