CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) -

Volunteers are getting fired up for the 83-year-old Charlotte tradition that involves a lot of cooking and a lot of eating.

The Mallard Creek Barbeque at Mallard Creek Presbyterian Church gets underway Thursday, but it takes weeks to prepare the food.

On Saturday the slaw is prepared and Sunday volunteers begin to prepare the Brunswick Stew.

Some people closely connected to the event will show up at 2 AM Monday morning to continue cooking for Charlotte's tradition.
