FORT MILL, SC (WBTV) - Neighbors living along Green Pond Road in Fort Mill, SC are frustrated at the fact their mail is not being delivered anymore. The Post office made the decision after it deemed the road unsafe and threatening for the mailman.
"I thought the mail was supposed to be delivered rain, sleet, or snow," Neighbor Margaret Wilson said. "That's what was always the motto I thought they lived by - apparently not."
Mail has not been delivered to Wilson's home and about 30 of her neighbors since October 10th. Here's the explanation they were given. Their mailman got into an accident with a trash truck on Green Pond Road. That road is narrow. After that accident, that's when the Post office discontinued mail until safety improvements are addressed.
"I pay my taxes," Wilson said. "I don't understand how they can do that."
The Post office contacted Lancaster county about either widening the road, lowering the speed limit, or adding a speed hump. The county is expected to present some options to county leaders at the end of October. Until the matter is resolved, neighbors will have to drive about 20 minutes to get their mail.
"There's nothing wrong with this road," Neighbor James Wilson said. "You have to be just a little bit cautious - Can't drive like an idiot."
