Missing the NC voter registration deadline doesn't mean you can't vote

CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) -

The deadline to register to vote on Election Day has passed. If you're eligible to vote and missed the deadline, you can still vote in the General Elections.

Michael Dickerson, Director of Elections in Mecklenburg County says missing the deadline means you won't be able to go to a polling place on November 6th. But he says "all is not lost. You're still in good shape. You can go to one of our one stop early voting sites that open on the 18th and there {you} register to vote and vote at the same time".

Despite the option of one stop early voting, hundreds of people showed up Friday at the Board of Elections to make sure their voter registration forms were submitted in time.

Nick Woods, who needed to update his voter registration because he recently moved to Mecklenburg County, says "I like the experience of going to the ballot box on election day." The only way he could do that was register to vote by Friday's deadline.

Charles Bradley of Charlotte also showed up to register. He says he was turned away from voting last election because his information wasn't updated.  Bradley says " I decided I was going to get registered and vote this year.

Bradley says he's aware of the one stop early voting but he wanted to come and register to vote now. He says "I wanted to come here, get the paperwork in and make sure that it is in. That's why I came here as opposed to doing it online".

Dickerson, the Director of Elections in Mecklenburg County says the deadline also includes mail. He says "anywhere - if you picked up a form, you got it online and downloaded - it needed to be either hand delivered by 5p or postmarked today {10/12}".
