Stolen truck, lawnmower call leads to drug arrest

A Gastonia man was arrested in York County after he ran from deputies responding to a stolen vehicle case, according to the York County Sheriff's Office.

The incident began Thursday when York County deputies responded to a call about a stolen vehicle and a riding lawnmower on Bellaire Circle in Clover. Around the same time, the deputies got word that Gaston County deputies were following the vehicle into York County, the report states.

The man driving the vehicle, later identified as Gideon Johnson, 32, the son of the victim, jumped from the truck and ran into nearby woods. As K-9 Units tracked him back to the home on Bellaire Circle, deputies searched the truck and found 9 individual bags of marijuana, deputies said.

Johnson was arrested and charged with possession of marijuana with intent to distribute 3rd or subsequent offense.

No charges were filed for the original call of larceny.
