Deer on the interstate tranquilized, taken to animal shelter

CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) - Drivers on I-277 got a little shock Thursday morning when they saw a deer on the road.

A WBTV producer saw the deer just after 8 a.m. It was standing on the other side of the barricade at I-277 and the exit ramp to Stonewall/South Boulevard.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police blocked part of the road to keep the deer and drivers safe.

Officers directed drivers to get off the interstate at the Stonewall exit.

Initial reports were that the deer died, but CMPD says it was tranquilized and taken to the animal shelter.
