Hundreds of students in CMS still need shots

Posted: Updated:
CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) -

More than a month after students went back to class in Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools, hundreds still need their shots. That means those students are missing classes.

CMS tells WBTV 300 kindergartners and 285 sixth-graders are in need of immunizations as of Wednesday. While that number is down significantly from the 2011-2012 school year when 770 kindergartners and 1489 sixth-graders were excluded from class - that still means hundreds of local students are being kept out of school right now.

Families were given a one-month extension to update immunizations before students were sent home. That deadline has passed.

Parents can find more information about immunizations here.
