CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) -
A Charolotte-Mecklenburg police officer was involved in a crash while searching for a rape suspect Thursday afternoon.
The incident was reported around 1:30 p.m. at 7th Street and Charlottetowne Avenue, according to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department.
Police say the officer was stopped in the middle of the intersection in order to make a U-turn.
A White Mercedes was attempting to drive past the cruiser when the two collided.
No injuries were reported in crash, police said.
The officer was attempting to check on a man walking up the onramp to Independence Boulevard who matched the description of a suspect in a separate investigation.
That person, who was wanted in connection to a reported rape in Grier Heights, was captured a short time later hiding behind a daycare on 7th Street.
