October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month. In North Carolina this year, there have been 47 domestic violence-related homicides. On Thursday, October 4, the interfaith community in Charlotte will hold a Candlelight Vigil for victims and survivors of domestic violence.
The public is invited to show support for the victims, the families, and the survivors. This year's theme is Reflections of Love, Expressions of Hope.
Members of the interfaith community and the Charlotte Mecklenburg Library are coordinating the vigil. Organizers encourage families to bring a photo of their lost loved ones. There will be a time during the evening to share personal reflections. A candle will be lit for each North Carolina victim who died this year. The Silent Witness Initiative silhouettes will also be on display.
Thursday's vigil starts at 6:30 p.m. at Beatties Ford Road Regional Library, at 2412 Beatties Ford Road.
