Man arrested for kidnapping and torturing woman

CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) - Detectives spent the afternoon following up on leads at the Microtel in Matthews Friday.

It's where police say a 19-year-old girl was kidnapped and brutally beaten by 29-year-old Shahid Muslin.

Shawnta Griffin is the victim's sister.

"I guess he just kept hitting her, he was upset about her leaving and he wanted to prove a point,' said Griffin.

Griffin says Muslin attacked her sister after she tried to break off the relationship.

She says he used a mutual friend to lure her sister to the hotel.

There he allegedly used boxing gloves to beat her, stuffed her in a trunk and then tortured and held her hostage in his East Charlotte home.

"Making sure she was held hostage and bound was his way of making sure she didn't go anywhere, but when she had that chance to leave she did, " said Griffin.

A report released by CMPD says the "victim was assaulted multiple times, with different objects."

Griffin says her sister was handcuffed to the bathtub and left under cold running water before she was finally able to escape.

"It was in the bathroom where she found the bobby pin and went ahead and got it off, " said Griffin.

By the time police arrived to the home, Muslin was already gone.

But Thursday, U.S. Marshalls tracked him to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania where he was arrested at the Greyhound bus station.

Muslin is charged with kidnapping, assault on a female and assault with a deadly weapon.
