Sumter County investigators are looking into a bizarre death on the campus of South Georgia Technical College.

A source tells us the student may have been electrocuted in a campus fountain.

Officials will only say they're investigating the death as an accidental drowning.

Crime scene tape was still up Thursday night as Sumter County Deputies investigate what happened at a fountain at on campus that killed a Richland native, female adult education student.

"I heard she got shocked and drowned," said South Georgia Tech student Cortez Graham.

The official cause of death is still under investigation and deputies are still trying to piece together why the student would cross the chain link barrier in front of the fountain.

"I couldn't believe it. I was shocked. I was stunned," said Graham.

Investigators won't release the victim's name until Friday, but Graham told us he had dinner with her a few weeks ago.

"I met her through her sister. She was a nice girl. She was pretty decent," said Graham

"It's terrible. It's heartbreaking," he continued.

Graham says he can tell the mood around campus will be uneasy for the rest of the semester.

"It's going to be bad. Nobody is going to that fountain anymore," said Graham.

For now, deputies and the school will continue to look into the incident and how the student died and students like Graham must now move forward with heavy hearts.

The college released a statement saying South Georgia Technical College faculty, staff, and students are extremely saddened by the accident and wish to extend condolences to the student's family and friends.
