Man shot breaking into home, charged with 25 break-ins

Two men arrested in August have been found to be involved in 25 break-ins across the county, according to the Iredell County Sheriff's Office.

On August 16, deputies responded to Fern Hill Road in Troutman, NC, in reference to a breaking and entering in progress, and where a man had been shot, according to the Iredell County Sheriff's Office.

Once on scene, the deputies found Stephen Buchanan, 27, of Mooresville, was caught breaking into the residence by a family member, and was still at the scene after being wounded by a gun shot.

His accomplice, Matthew Little, 37, had fled the scene but was stopped by deputies a short distance from the home, officials said.

Buchanan was air lifted to CMC where he was treated for the gunshot wound and was later released and arrested for the crime. Matthew Little was arrested at the time of the crime.

After acquiring a search warrant on the vehicle the duo was in, deputies not only found property belonging to the home on Fern Hill Road, but also found property belonging to other theft victims around the county, the report states.

Detectives with the Iredell County Sheriff's Office met and compiled their cases and located victim's who had break-ins in the Troutman/Mooresville area.

As a result, the Sheriff's Office was able to clear up 25 other break-ins ranging from Troutman to Mooresville, deputies say.

Both Buchanan and Little were charged and arrested for the additional crimes.

Buchanan is being held in the Iredell County Jail where he is awaiting trial under a $605,000 secured bond.

Little is being held in the Iredell County Jail where he is awaiting trial under a $300,000 secured bond.
