CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) - Charlotte - Mecklenburg school (CMS) district reports more than 1,000 students still have not shown proof they have been immunized.
CMS says if students do not present documentation by Wednesday morning, they will be asked to leave school.
Officials says it's a safety issue.
"Prevention is the key to good health," CMS Health Specialist Nancy Lingenfeld said. "That's what immunizations protect against, disease, not only people with the disease but other people you come in contact with."
Officials at the Mecklenburg county health department report there was a steady stream of students coming to the health department Tuesday trying to get their shots.
Lingenfeld said there will be no exceptions. If students can't present their shot records, they will be asked to leave the school.
The school district says students who still haven't received their shots, there is still time.
They can go to the health department, but they have to make an appointment.
And there will be a Big Shot Saturday on Saturday, September 29th at the health department on Beatties Ford.
The first 100 students will be given shots.
