CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) -

Firefighters have controlled a two-alarm apartment fire on The Plaza that broke out shortly before 7:00 Sunday morning.

Fire crews told WBTV that everyone made it out safely, but a number of apartments are full of smoke.

The Red Cross has been called in to help the nine people who are displaced. No one was hurt.

According to CMPD The cause of the fire is determined to be accidental because of improperly discarding smoking materials.

The damages are estimated at $80,000. Two apartments are completely destroyed while several others were affected by smoke, water, and fire control measures.

The Plaza was blocked in both directions in the 1800 block near Belle Terre Avenue in the Plaza Midwood neighborhood of northeast Charlotte near uptown.
