Carowinds ride shut down as part of nationwide safety review

CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV)- Carowinds has joined five other amusement parks across North America in temporarily shutting down its Windseeker ride due to a technical issue.

The park's parent company, Cedar Fair of Sandusky, Ohio made the announcement late Friday night.

This comes two days after 20 riders were stranded 300 feet in the air aboard the Windseeker at Knotts Berry Farm in Southern California when a break froze.

In July, riders were stuck 30 feet in the air for two and a half hours at Carowinds.

Cedar Fair said in a statement Friday it will conduct an internal review to determine why the ride's safety system has caused automatic shutdowns at parks in California, Ohio, Virginia, North Carolina and two locations in Canada.
