One dead, one hospitalized after argument led to gunfire

SHELBY, NC (WBTV) - The Shelby Police Department is investigating a deadly shooting that happened on McGowen Road in Shelby.

Police say when they arrived to the home they found two men suffering from gunshot wounds.

54-year-old John Cummings was pronounced dead at the scene. 54-year-old Ronnie Pearson of Mooresboro was shot in the abdomen and transported to Cleveland Regional Medical Center for treatment.

After investigating further, police found out Cummings and Pearson were in an argument with Sherman Lee. The 49-year-old Lee pulled out a gun, police say, and shot both men.

Officials say Lee had an accomplice, 49-year-old David Williams.

Both Lee and Williams have been charged with one count of murder. Lee has an additional charge of assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury with intent to kill.

Both suspects are being held at the Cleveland County Detention Center without bond.

Police did not say what the men were arguing about.
