CHEROKEE COUNTY, SC (WYFF) -
Two Upstate sheriff's offices are working together to see if two rape cases are connected.
The most recent case happened in Cherokee County where deputies are looking for a man they say raped a woman on Monday about 6:30 p.m. off U.S. 29 on Seminole Trail near Cowpens.
The woman told deputies the man came to her home and asked to use the phone. He then used a handgun to force his way inside, where he sexually assaulted her, Sheriff Steve Mueller said.
The woman could only give deputies a general description of the man as wearing black shorts with green writing and white T-shirt. She also said he left in a newer model, light colored vehicle that was possibly silver, gray or light blue.
Spartanburg County deputies said they are comparing notes with Cherokee County about the case.
On Aug. 17 a Spartanburg County woman at Newport Apartments told deputies a man asked to use the bathroom and claimed his car broke down
She told deputies the man forced his way inside and sexually assaulted her.
Deputies released a sketch of the man. Investigators said he was seen driving a small silver or gray car, possibly a Toyota or Honda.
