Crash in Elizabeth, officers ask drivers to avoid area near 7th at Laurel

Posted: Updated:

Emergency crews responded to two crashes in east Charlotte Wednesday afternoon.

Police are asking people to avoid the Elizabeth area near the intersection of 7th Street and North Laurel Avenue. This is the scene of the second crash.

Medic is transporting three people from this crash. Two people have very serious injuries. A third is hurt, but expected to be OK.  Two patients are being taken to Carolinas Medical Center-Main, the third is being taken to Presbyterian.

Officials say drivers can expect significant delays headed outbound as officers work to detour drivers through the neighborhood. One lane is open inbound.

Shortly before that crash, Medic transported three people from a crash involving a CATS bus in east Charlotte. The crash happened before 4:30 p.m. at Wendover and Marvin Roads.

Medic said two people were taken to Presbyterian Hospital, and the third patient was taken to Carolinas Medical Center-Mercy. All are expected to be OK.

There is no word what caused either crash.
