CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) -

A Charlotte woman was arrested Wednesday morning after police learned she had a handgun on campus.

The incident was reported Wednesday morning at David Cox Elementary School on David Cox Road, according to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department.

Cheryl Lisa Ashbee-Jones, 44, of Charlotte, is charged with possession of a firearm on educational property.

The school was on lockdown for about 20 minutes while police took Jones into custody.

Jones told officers she had a gun after she called them to the school for another incident. Police say she also had all the proper permits for a concealed weapon.
