Getting hit hard? How to allergy-proof your home

CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) - Allergy season is here earlier than usual.

"In mid-September that's when you are going to feel it the most," said Denise Litzelman the owner of Merry Maids Cleaning Service.

And you know what that means, a lot of coughing and sneezing!

Looking to stay indoors to get away from pollen?

"Sometimes the air quality in your home can be five times more polluted then the air outside," said Litzelman.

First, there are steps you should incorporate into your cleaning routine to help you breathe more easily.

Litzelman said we should also use the proper cleaning tools.

"The vacuums that we use with the HEPA filters retains 99 percent of what it takes in."

Also, use the correct micro fiber cleaning cloths to avoid spreading dust.

"They feel soft but there are little tiny hooks in the fabric that actually pick up the dust pick up any type of dirt and they trap it," said Litzelman.

With a little work your house can be a haven for those in your family who live with allergies.
