Two suspects who allegedly kidnapped a man, beat him, and left him on a road naked were found guilty last Friday by a Berkeley County jury.
Ryan Carl Newman and Jessica Lynn Clark of Summerville were found guilty of kidnapping, strong arm robbery and assault & battery first degree in relation to an incident that occurred on January 6, 2011.
Newman was sentenced to 14 years in prison, while Clark's sentencing has been postponed. A third suspect will be tried at a later date.
According to an incident report, Clark picked up the victim and drove him to deserted dirt road in Summerville. When they got to the road, the victim says three masked suspects beat him and took his wallet and keys. The victim was then stripped of his clothes and left naked on the side of the road.
The victim then ran home and called the police.
On January 7, 2011, the victim told police that during a Facebook chat with Clark, she claimed she was also robbed and that it was not a set up. When questioned by police, Clark claimed that one of the suspects told her to get in the back seat while another suspect held a gun to her head.
When asked by police why she did not call them after the incident, she said she did not call because she was scared.
Warrants were later issued for the arrest of Clark and Newman after investigators determined they were both involved in the incident and that it was a set up.
Arrest records state that Clark was arrested on January 12, 2011 and Newman was arrested on January 20, 2011.
