Good News: Airport skycap hands out candy and smiles

CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) - It's no secret some people might choose a root canal over a trip through any airport. But at Charlotte-Douglas, flight delays and long lines are made a little easier by a guy who will also help with your bags.

"I've been doing this for 42 years and I still have a few years left in me," said Sandy Linton.

71-year-old Linton used to be slammed with requests for help. But most folks come prepared with wheeled luggage and Smart Carts are available for rent throughout the airport.

When he's not helping someone with their bags, Sandy hands out candy that he carries in a fanny pack strapped around his waist.

"I'll take a smile over a frown any day."

While we followed him around, Sandy helped a woman who was having a hard time getting around. As he closed the trunk of her car after putting her bags in, she hugged him. "I'll never forget you," she said as she hugged his neck.

Sandy followed up with a "knock-knock" joke. When the woman asked "Who's there?" Sandy said, "See? You already forgot me."

It was all in an effort to make her laugh, which it did. Which makes a day for Sandy, a job well done.
