Allow extra time next week for your morning commute if you use Interstate 85 at Bruton Smith Boulevard {Exit 49} to Highway 73 {Exit 55}. According to the North Carolina Department of Transportation {NCDOT}, lanes will be closed to allow for the road work. The NCDOT has provided the following schedule:
Monday and Tuesday, Sept. 17-18:
- Crews will close one lane intermittently in both directions from Exit 49 (Bruton Smith Boulevard) to Exit 55 (N.C. 73), clearing debris and repairing potholes. Work will take place from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m.
Wednesday, Sept. 19:
- Left lane on I-85 South at Poplar Tent Road will close at 9 p.m.; and
- Traffic will be detoured up and over the Poplar Tent Road bridge back to I-85 South from midnight to 5 a.m.
Thursday, Sept. 20:
- Left lane on I-85 North at Poplar Tent Road will close at 9 p.m.; and
- Traffic will be detoured up and over the Poplar Tent Road bridge back to I-85 North from midnight to 5 a.m.
Friday, Sept. 21:
- Crews will close one lane intermittently on I-85 North at Exit 52 at 9 p.m. to perform work under the bridge deck; and
- Traffic will be detoured up and over the Poplar Tent Road bridge back to I-85 North from midnight to 5 a.m.
Saturday, Sept. 22:
- Crews will close one lane intermittently on I-85 South at Exit 52 at 9 p.m. to perform work under the bridge deck; and
- Traffic will be detoured up and over the Poplar Tent Road bridge back to I-85 South from midnight to 5 a.m.
Work in this area of I-85 is scheduled to be complete in November 2013. Have a safe commute!
