The Charlotte Humane Society is helping take care of 250 animals rescued from an alleged puppy mill in South Carolina.
Deputies in Edgefield County discovered the dogs after people who live nearby complained. They say the owner runs a dog breeding website, and that all of the dogs were living in deplorable conditions.
They are suffering from eye infections, skin irritations, and many are malnourished, deputies told WBTV.
The Charlotte Humane Society and the Humane Society of the United States are helping the South Carolina agency take care of the dogs.
Officials told WBTV that eventually some of the dogs will be at the shelter in Charlotte, and will likely go up for adoption.
