Officers with the Alexander County Sheriff's Office participated in a Marijuana Eradication effort on Wednesday, September 12, 2012. Ground assistance was provided by the NC State Bureau of Investigation with air support from the NC State Highway Patrol air support unit.
During the operation officers seized 55 Marijuana plants that were found growing near two different residences in the eastern portion of Alexander County.
This Marijuana Eradication effort was the first operation where Sheriff's Office personnel got the opportunity to use a 1999 Dodge Ram truck that was recently purchased through seized drug funds. Sheriff Bowman noted that he was pleased to be able to use Alexander County drug dealer's money to work against their efforts to cultivate and sell Marijuana.
"I am proud of the effort everyone put forth today in searching for and seizing this Marijuana. Thanks to this seizure, this Marijuana will never hit the street to possibly be sold to young men and women in our community. Fighting the war on drugs is an arduous process that takes the support of the community and I am thankful for that support. If you know of someone who is cultivating or selling illegal drugs I encourage you to report it to our office or the Crime Stopper's Tip Line by calling 632-8555."
