"Speak Out" is an expression of opinion from the Editorial Board of WBTV, and is presented by General Manager, Nick Simonette.
When you're out and about today – going to work school, or maybe just shopping – take a look around.
During the past few months, we have seen trees and shrubs trimmed, flowers planted, grass mowed, buildings and sidewalks power-washed.
There's been a concerted effort to clean up trash – both within the city and along the highways…
all in preparation for the DNC coming to Charlotte.
Now that the Convention has come and gone, the Queen City is like a shiny new penny.
Well, if we did all of this for "strangers" coming in for a short visit, wouldn't it be nice to keep our city clean and beautiful for those of us who live here?
We can do this in a number of ways: by simply throwing trash in garbage cans…making sure that objects are secure in truck beds, and maybe making the effort to pick up someone else's careless littering when you can.
If everyone is mindful of disposing of garbage correctly,
if businesses will continue the upkeep on their buildings and grounds,
and if the city and state will do their parts,
then the Queen City can continue to have that clean-polished look we can all enjoy and be proud of.
Let's not wait for the "next big thing" to come to town to make the effort.
Because WBTV is "On Your Side," we encourage everyone to "Speak Out" – tell us what YOU think. SpeakOut@wbtv.com.
