IREDELL COUNTY, NC (WBTV) -

A Mooresville teen died while riding his dirtbike.

Iredell Schools told WBTV Dillon Schacht, 16, was killed over the weekend.

WBTV spoke to Dillon's father, Rich Schacht, Tuesday afternoon. He said that he and his family have lived in North Carolina for three years.

"Everybody loved him. All he cared about was racing," said Rich Schacht.

Dillon went to Lake Norman High School for most of that time, and had just started attending South Iredell High School.

WBTV learned Schacht died Sunday afternoon in Taylorsville, North Carolina. He was riding his dirtbike, but it's not clear if he was practicing or competing. The teen was involved with motocross for years.

Investigators ruled Schacht's death as an accident. WBTV found tributes to the teen all over social media.

"The only comforting thing to me is he passed away at a race track doing what he loved," Schacht said.

WBTV has learned there will be a private memorial service for Dillon Schacht this week.
